The High Commission of Rwanda in London is the diplomatic mission of Rwanda in the United Kingdom and also the home of the Rwanda diplomatic mission to the Republic of Ireland. The High Commission is located at 120 to 122 Seymour Place, London, near to Marylebone and Baker Street underground stations. As well as the High Commission, the building also houses the Embassy of Rwanda in London.
The High Commission provides consular services to Rwandan citizens living in the UK and Ireland including passport applications, marriage registration, emergency travel documents and police clearance certificates. For UK citizens, the High Commission can provide visa services and travel documents, press accreditation and permission to film in the country, along with information on Rwanda and its people.
His Excellency Williams Nkurunziza is the immediate past High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to the United Kingdom, now Ambassador Designate to Turkey. Rwanda’s non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ireland and representative to and Governor on the Board of the Commonwealth Secretariat. His previous posting was as High Commissioner of Rwanda to India, with concurrent accreditation to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as well as designate-Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Union of Myanmar.
Previously, he served as Director General of the Rwanda Investment and Export Promotional Agency. During this time, he also served on President Paul Kagame’s Presidential Economic Advisory Council. Beyond public service, H.E. Nkurunziza boasts a rich private sector experience, having served at senior corporate levels in Namibia, Kenya and Uganda. Until his Ambassadorial appointment, he was Group Managing Director, Habib Investments, a holding company in Uganda with interests in telecommunications, oil and gas, banking, property development, engineering, agriculture and motor vehicle leasing. H.E. Nkurunziza is widely travelled and has attended and or addressed international conferences and seminars in over 50 countries across the world – in the Americas, Europe (including the UK), Africa and Asia.
A published author, H.E. Nkurunziza attended universities in South Africa, Kenya and Uganda. His book, Pangs of Life, an anthology of poetry, has been published. Nkurunziza was awarded the Aryabatha International Award by the Aryabatha civil organization in Bangalore for his contribution to international understanding.
Amb. Nkurunziza is married to Ms Leonia with whom they have three Children. His hobbies include reading, writing poetry and playing golf.
