“The potential exists in every human being for the expression of deep humanity and destructive inhumanity. Conflict may be part of both expressions.
Alongside the need to restore justice, the nurturing of peace requires ‘spaces’ in which those who have been – may still be – caught up in violent conflict can speak of their experience, be heard and have their humanity recognised.
Such spaces need to provide a non-judgemental environment with the purpose of opening up understanding rather than either condoning or condemning what is shared, and enabling those living with the legacy of conflict to do what they need to do in order to rebuild their lives.”
